Canadian violinist Marie-Ève Poupart is renowned for her deep sonority, kindness and big heart. It is in her performances of highly varied programs that she delights and connects with her audiences. She enjoys communicating through works that are uplifting, dynamic as well as tender and melodious. Through music and her interest in people, she hopes to reach the soul of the listeners in order to guide them towards a higher spiritual realm. She likes to give her listeners the time to experience a quiet moment and an appreciation of life thanks to the effect of the music itself. Responding to this need of tranquillity and inner peace is therefore an important calling for Marie-Ève.
She was born of parents who are passionate about classical music. Both having studied the violin, shared this fervent interest with their three children, who all played the violin. Marie-Ève began her studies with her parents at the age of four and then entered the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal three years later. She studied with Angèle Dubeau, Anne Robert, and Johanne Arel for ten years. Marie-Ève received a Bachelor Degree in Performance at the Conservatoire in 2007, with a 100% grade. One year later, she graduated at the top level ‘Concours’ with a diploma in Chamber Music, receiving the ‘Prix avec grande distinction’ (a unanimous decision by the jury). In 2009 she performed the ‘Concours’ level with a diploma in Performance, receiving the same award. She then pursued her studies with Pamela Frank at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, where she received an Artist Diploma at the doctoral level in 2012.
Marie-Ève has performed as soloist with various orchestras such as the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières, the Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil, the Ensemble Amati and the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal. In 2005, she participated in two concerts during the New York String Orchestra Seminar under the leadership of Jaime Laredo at the Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. She was a member of the Ensemble Amati from 2004 to 2009, the New York Classical Players Chamber Orchestra from 2011 to 2012, as well as the quatuor ARTfact de notre époque in 2013-2014. Presently she plays with the I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra and when her schedule permits, she performs with Les Violons du Roy, the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa and other orchestras. She has performed at the Water Island Classical Festival in the Virgin Islands, at various events and concerts in China, the Bahamas, Hungary, as well as in many other American, Canadian and European cities. Marie-Ève loves to encourage others, to give support to a variety of charitable organizations such as cancer, needy children, the abused, the handicapped, strife-torn countries and other causes. She participated in benefit concerts destined to help the victims of the Haiti and Japanese earthquakes in 2011.
During the 2010 spring, Marie-Ève toured for two months throughout Eastern Canada and the province of Québec accompanied by the Quebec harpist, Valérie Milot. This series of twenty-two concerts sponsored by Desjardins group was organized by the Jeunesses musicales du Canada. She has participated in the Montreal Chamber Music Festival playing with such illustrious musicians as Ignat Solzhenitsyn, Ilya Kaler, Anton Kuerti, Marcus Thompson, Barry Shiffman, Denis Brott, Lambert Chen, Andrew Wan, Elizabeth Wallfisch and Jonathan Crow. She has also had the opportunity to collaborate with Boris Slutsky, Julian Gargiulo, Todd Palmer, Daniel Phillips, Paul Katz and Michael Kannen during the last several years. She was chosen twice during the Radio-Canada Jeunes Artistes auditions to record professionally in the Radio-Canada studios. We have heard her perform on the Radio-Canada television, the Ottawa Parliament, the Mont Tremblant Music Festival, on Radio Ville-Marie, CBC, CJPX and Radio CIBL. She has also taught many children and adolescents for five years. She has performed as concertmaster during the inaugural concert of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s 2007-08 season conducted by Maestro Kent Nagano.
Marie-Ève received First Prize at the Canadian Music Competition in 1998 (when only eleven years old). Since then, she has received numerous prestigious awards such as the Paul Merkelo Prize during the 65th Montreal Symphony Competition, First Prize at the Festival de musique classique de Pierre-De-Saurel 2003 and the Sillery Provincial Competition in 2004, Third Prize at the Concours Mozart de la Sinfonia de Lanaudière in 2006, First Prize at the Repentigny Provincial Competition and the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières Competition in 2007 and the Prix d’Europe in 2009. She played on a Giovanni Tonnoni Bell 1700 violin lent to her from the Canadian Council for the Arts Instrument Bank for the years 2009-2012. In 2009 she received a scholarship from the Canadian Council for the Arts. In 2008, she received the Peter Mendell Prize and received the Révélation Prize in 2006 from the city of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu in recognition of her ‘achievements, talent, audacity and determination’. In 2004 she received the prestigious Quebec Lieutenant-General’s Award for her ‘musical talent, exceptional devotion and remarkable personality’. From ten years, she was supported by the Fonds Claude-Raymond; twice a scholarship recipient of the Fondation Joseph-McAbbie as well as the Fondation Wilfrid-Pelletier.
Marie-Ève has always found it important to participate in numerous masterclasses, summer festivals and music workshops in order to learn the most possible of varying points of view in her artistry. She has studied with such illustrious artists as Maxim Vengerov, Igor Oistrakh, Joseph Silverstein, Joel Smirnoff, Aaron Rosand, Dmitri Berlinsky, Donald Weilerstein, Soovin Kim, Ani Kavafian, Pinchas Zukerman, Kim Kashkashian, Kolja Lessing, Daniel Phillips, Victor Pikayzen, Michael Tree, Mauricio Fuks, Ana Chumachenco and Pavel Vernikov. She studied at the Young Artists Program at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa; Orford Academy, Domaine Forget Festival and the Camp musical des Laurentides, all three in Québec, the Banff Centre in Western Canada, the Sarasota Music Festival in Florida, Yellow Barn Summer Music Festival in Vermont, Summit Music Festival in New York, Kronberg Academy in Germany, Tibor Varga Academy in Switzerland and Crescendo Academy in Hungary.
